Edible Dormouse.

Edible dormice are nocturnal and spend the day in nests taken from birds or located in hollow trees. Although they are relatively poor jumpers, they are good climbers and spend most of their time in the trees. They generally stay in the forest and avoid open areas. Edible dormice are not social animals, although small groups of closely related adults have occasionally been reported. Many females from communal nesting areas where they care for their young together.

 

Before hibernation, edible dormice properly stuff their bellies until they have doubled their weight up to 0.6 lb (300 g). 

 

Edible dormice are active during a six-month period and hibernate from October to May, depending on local climatic conditions. It lasts 7-8 months. In some rare cases, they even spend more than 11 months sleeping. During the cold period, they withdraw into their burrow 1-3.2 ft (30-100 cm) underground because they are well protected from ground frost there.
